Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

Went back to Crater to go sightseeing. Didn't wash mornings dishes. Left Mortimer at camp - it was full of old people with trailers. Didn't think anyone would take him.

Picked up two hitch hikers & took them all the way to the rim. Looked some more - Crater is big - about 6 miles across. The lake is a deep blue. The sides are all steep rock, some slides, some cliffs, some just slopes. There's a boat on the lake which ruins the natural scenic beauty.

Drove around rim sightseeing. Packed cooler full of snow rather than buying ice. Got to Cleetwood Landing - place where trail to boat is. Decided to go. Rushed down the trail which was pretty much loose sand. Got to boat and took the ride. Was pretty. Park Naturalist didn't explain much about the different kinds of rock formations.

Boat went to Wizard Island - the crater to the side of the lake. One person got left behind. Ha, ha. Water waves were just like on the bay - exactly like it.

Went to Phantom Ship where there's a drop from 80 ft to 800 ft. Water turned from green to deep blue - Spectacular. Whole lake is about 1900 ft deep. Water level stays about the same from year to year. Was really beautiful but there wasn't much else to see. Birds were different.

Went back to camp. Built up fire from coals which were there from the day before. Cooked more franks, then played guitar till bedtime - I finally feel like I'm getting somewhere - I know three notes on one of the strings.

Burned incense in car on way back - yeech. Was very nice touring without Mortimer. Wish I could leave him behind all the time. Went to bed.
