Tiber Dam Recreation Area, Montana

Left Theo. late in the morning about 11:00 for Glacier. Still cloudy. Kept speed at 55 mph not usual 65-70, 70-85. Saves on gas.

Was still cloudy at Theodore. Traveled all day, talked to some gas station attendents. Also to a flagman while stopped for a minute crossing the Missouri River. I've discovered that to meet people you have to get off the Interstates. You go slower, have an easier time driving, and you see the country. I think I'll take small roads from here on.

About 8:30 with 1 1/2 hrs of traveling to go, I decided to stop at a small (they're all small in Montana) state park - Tiber Dam Recreation area. Montana is completely flat in this area. Well there's a valley here with a rather big river running through it. You won't notice the place until you're right on top of it. It's a very pleasant stopping place. However there's not much privacy.

I met Michel who greeted me with a “Hello Neighbor“ . That was nice. He's very interesting. He's traveling back to California after living for a while in Cleveland. He's backpacked across the country. He plays the guitar very well and sings better. He doesn't have much equipment. I fed him some string beans because I had too many.

We sat up talking to three girls who live here. They're bored stiff & want me to stay. I found I tell somewhat good ghost stories. I only know one though. They fascinated the girls. Later I scared one by putting my hand on her head. Had a good time.
