Kalaloch Campground, Olympic National Park, WA

Don't remember about this day. Journal was about 5 days behind as I write this.

It was sunny at Kalaloch until the day I left. I talked with the two girls and walked around camp. Attended Mass with a group of young Christians. Sunday I nearly packed up and left to go and see Christy.

Didn't because the two girls came by. I stayed with them most of the day. The camp was deserted. That actually was when we walked around looking for another camp for them. Murray had left the day before.

I had Hobo Stew with them as supper that night. Its a hamburger with carrots, onions, potatoes, and whatever you think of wrapped in tinfoil and cooked in the coals of a fire. It was delicious - also a very nice change from what I usually ate.

Also with two other people who were picnicking I had a smelt which to me had little taste. It just isn't what I would like to eat. Later with them I had some very good stew - Mint tea with two spoons of honey and a jigger of Barcardi Rum. It really warms you up fast. It was extremely good. It's the kind of tea I should make all the time in camp. When I get home I'll have to start making it.

Stayed up with the girls - built a nice fire for them after they decided to go get something to drink. It was beautiful for a while. By the time they returned it had pretty much burned down.

I started getting the journal back up to date then. Fell behind again the next day when I went to see Christy.

As Margie and Sandy and I were talking a Ranger came by. He was checking to see who had paid. The girls didn't have enough money to pay. They were worried and frightened. I told them it didn't matter that much and if they really needed the money they should just come to me.

He was a nice guy. He knew I was the guy from New York. He was from there also. He was interesting. He told us a little about the park and his job.

After a while we all went to bed. I told the girls I'd be taking off the next morning but that I wanted to give them breakfast first They accepted.

My lantern started going out for some reason. Odd.
