Albuquerque, New Mexico

This was a 800 mile one-way side trip - killing time till I headed back North to Seattle and then East to back home.

Then we woke up, moved into a campsite, and I made breakfast. Afterwards went down and started reading “The Pentagon Papers“. It's very macabre.

Around 12 she suggested moving on. It wasn't too hot and there was nothing to do there so I agreed. Packed the car and started traveling.

Along the way we picked up a hitch hiker who was stuck out in the middle of the desert near an Indian trading post. He was grateful. He got in and the car stalled. We were stuck there for an 1/2 hour while the car cooled. Then it started up and we all took off.

Anna bought some grass from him so she could give it to her brother. She smoked 1/2 a one too. Got giggly. They really hit it off together.

He told us about his experiences and we joked and talked with him. We got into another place for gas and rest. As we started off the car stalled again - two long stops because of Ana. She was dying of the heat.

A little after dark we reached Albuquerque. It was pretty coming over the hill and seeing all the lights down there. We got lost, stopped, bought food for supper and decided to camp out rather than going to her brothers house or to her friends house.

Went up to a dam. Took a long time off the roads. We kept thinking we were lost. We missed the project access road. Finally found it and went along it. Came to what I thought was a picnic area. It was the campground.

We were the only ones there. We looked down into a valley and saw what looked like a huge swimming hole or parking lot. And what we thought was a small lake. It was a really weird sight.

We had Dinty Moores Beef Stew for dinner. Also poorly made tea by Anna.

Was very windy and cold. We bedded down in a group of trees. We had a campfire. Anna untuned the guitar and played some. The hitch hiker and I talked for several hours. He was interesting.

We put the plastic down, then my sleeping bag, then her sleeping bag over us, then the tarp. Because of her bulk there wasn't enough room for all of us. I froze. In the middle of the night I had rolled into the middle. They were discussing how to diplomatically wake me up and get me to move over. I did it myself. Then I froze again.

Some drunk Indians came in. Anna, as usual, was paranoid about her little bit of money. She wanted me to get up and lock the car. I just grunted - didn't move. Then those two got up and got chased back by the Indians.

Morning came - I got up and explored.
