This is written on August 5. I thought I was two weeks behind. A lot of this will be condensed and reflective and edited.

Hhhhmmm, according to the dates as I've been creating the web pages, it is August 1st. I think one can conclude there are some missing days somewhere in here.

I don't think I stayed in camp that night. I think I went down to L.A. to find someone to go to New York with me. I called up one girl. She wasn't going to New York - she wanted to go to Alberqueque. I went over to her house to discuss it. She was big and fat and just turned me off. However for some crazy, idiotic, senseless reason, I agreed to take her.

She wanted to get there in two days - that's pushing it. She was a dancer (though I don't see how) and she did modeling for an art class. We went to that and she sat there for three hours. It was interesting watching the artists change their paintings and interpretations of her.

When that was over at two o'clock I took her home and went to UCLA and called some other numbers. Finally got in touch with a girl called Lisa who wanted to leave around Aug 20. I went to see her. She lived in an apartment building. It had a courtyard and swimming pool. It was very nice.

I walked to her door with music blaring and asked where Lisa was. “She's out by the pool wearing a red shirt.“, said a girlfriend. I went to the pool and stood for two minutes looking for a girl with a red shirt. All the beauties had bathing suits on. Then Lisa spoke up asking if I was the guy from New York. I was.

I talked to her and a (her?) boyfriend for about an hour. We agreed to leave the 14th and to take about two weeks instead of seven days. We also agreed to go up the coast and across Canada. That lets out going to see New Orleans. However it would be very very hot and humid down that way. I was rather tired of all the hot weather I'd encountered in California.

Lisa said she and her friends knew a lot of places to stay at. That should make the return trip very, very interesting.

Maybe I'll see Christy again. That should be nice. (Maybe, just maybe, I could get her to come with me - that's something I should think about.)

The only two bad things I see in going with Lisa is the loss of freedom that I have now and the fact that she wants a hands-off policy. I wonder why?

The lack of freedom I'll regret but the companionship will make up for it. The hands-off policy will, I think, just cause problems because everyone will think we're a couple. That's the way they will treat us but that's not the way we'll act. It will cause a lot of embarrassment I think. Also I will want to treat her like I treat other girl friends.

If she recognizes this things will be better. She'll either discourage it from the start and tell me to treat her like a stranger or she'll accept the fact and act the part of a girlfriend up to the point of sexual relations.

That I think would be easiest for everyone. Also more dangerous if she leads me to think she's changing the hands-off policy when she actually isn't. Oh well, so much for future thinking. We'll see what happens as it happens. I think I can get along peacefully with almost anyone.

That night I went up above L.A. to Los Padres National Forest. Couldn't find the campground so I camped by the side of the road. Built a very small fire and cooked two franks & ate them.

Saw a Volkswagen down a steep slope below me. Was interested in it but since it was dark and there might be people down there I didn't go down.

I had found half a bottle of Boone's Apple Wine so I drank that. It was good in the beginning but when the bottle was 1/4 full it tasted terrible. Only got a little high. It was nice and pleasant sitting there listening to music and trying to get drunk.

I think I'll remember this day for a long time. I got myself all fucked up twice in a matter of hours - Ana and Lisa. I don't know how I do these things to myself.
